Braves Plunder Pirates in 19 Innings
By Staff Writer: A. Hintz
It took 6 1/2 hours to do it, but the Atlanta Braves plundered the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 in 19 innings. The longest game in Atlanta Braves history ended at 1:50am Wednesday.
Despite losing the first game of the series against the Pirates, the Atlanta Braves came back to battle on Tuesday in the second game of the 4-game series. The Tuesday game didn't conclude without drama - Julio Lugo slid and was deemed safe on a play at home in the 19th inning, though all replays clearly showed Pirates catcher Michael McKenry applying the tag well before Lugo touched the plate.
We look forward to the remaining two games of the Braves-Pirates series!
In the meantime, we are also looking ahead to the Braves-Giants series in the middle of August! A game against the World Series champions will be nothing but exciting! Don't miss your chance to catch the Atlanta Braves play the San Francisco Giants at Turner Field!
