Atlanta Braves Opening Season Series Review
By #1 Braves Fan
The Atlanta Braves have kicked off the 2011 MLB Season. The Atlanta Braves opened up the season on the road, at the Washington Nationals. The first game of the series, on Thursday, March 31st, resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Atlanta Braves. It was the first game for Fredi Gonzalez as the manager of the Atlanta Braves and he couldn't have been any happier with his team's victory. For the second straight season, Jason Heyward homered in his first at bat of the season. He launched a solo shot in the 2nd inning to add to the 1-0 lead. The two runs were all starting pitcher Derek Lowe needed as he pitched 5 and 2/3 innings of shut out ball. The bullpen finished the job as they shut out the Nationals.
On Saturday, April 2nd, the Washington Nationals defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-3 in the second game of the series. Rick Ankiel homered and drove in 3 runs for the Washington Nationals as they got on the board early and often in the game. In the final game of the series, the Atlanta Braves slugged to a 11-2 victory. Catcher Brian McCann drove in four runs and Tim Hudson pitched seven strong innings. The Atlanta Braves won the opening series by a 2 games to 1 set. It was a solid series for the team and hopefully they can build on this for the next few series!
